DTLA: From The Big Easy to The Little Easy
Little Easy just opened a few weeks ago in Downtown Los Angeles. Located in the former Gorbals and their adjoining bar Bar Mitzvah spaces, Little Easy has transformed the minimalist space to something warm, friendly and definitely Southern-ish.
Some bars won’t serve Ramos Gin Fizzes because they take so long to make and attract others to want to order them causing an even greater delay. Yet they’re delicious and I occasionally want to order them. I’m happy to see it on the menu at Little Easy. This one could have stood a little bit more sweetness. Having both lemon and lime juice seems a bit of an overkill.
Ramos Gin Fizz – gin, lemon, lime, cream, egg white, orange flower water
The classic Sazarac gets a nod at Little Easy. It’s a solid cocktail.
Sazarac – rye whiskey, absinthe, bitters
Little Easy’s rum Milk Punch is very thick much like a shake. I attribute this to the addition of egg white in this drink. It was my favorite of the drinks I tried. Also, you can’t go wrong for happy with discounted Abita! So I had a cocktail and a beer back.
Milk Punch – dark rum, honey, cream, egg white
I hope to check out Little Easy for food soon. Only drinks are on special during happy hour, not food. I liked sitting in the front room best but they have live music occasionally in the back which really feels like you’re in the Big Easy. The mural in the alcove looks like it’s been there forever!
