DTLA: Orleans and York is Now Open
For my first visit, I decided on the OG Muffuletta from the Orleans side of the menu. I couldn’t pass up the mortadella, salami, capocollo, Swiss cheese, provolone and olive salad sandwich. The bread was great– it was soft yet still had a nice crust. It did seem buttered which I’m not sure was necessary with the oil from the olive salad which was very proper with olives, carrots, cauliflower and peppers. There are three other muffulettas including a NYC style one with roast beef and beef salami as well as a Cali one featuring turkey and beef salami plus a vegetarian one with grilled eggplant, squash, mushrooms.
I would also like to return for the fried catfish platter and oyster po boy. They have plenty of Zapps chips for sale to munch on as well. I was intrigued by the cake by the slice options. I wonder how their red velvet is? I did wish they sold gumbo by the cup. The Gumbo Mumbo seemed too much like its own meal. You can even order the Gumbo Mumbo with rice.
I’ll get to the “York” side soon which features New York heroes. The Little Italy (ham, Genoa, hot capocollo, provlone, tomato, etc) and Ms. Rachel (pastrami or corned beef, coleslaw, Russian dress, Swiss cheese) are right up my alley.
