Will American Pharaoh Take the Triple Crown at Belmont Stakes + Recap of Kentucky Derby at Melrose Umbrella Company
This year I enjoyed the Kentucky Derby viewing festivities at Melrose Umbrella Company. Woodford Reserve whiskey was the sponsor and they even brought in the official Churchill Downs glasses. First things first- get a mint julep in a snazzy souvenir glass.
Melrose Umbrella had a special menu for the day. We got the shrimp and grits as well as the fried chicken and waffles.
These were small tasty bites suitable for snacking on while watching the races.
So maybe it’s time for another bourbon? This time in the form of a Seelbach, another classic cocktail associated with Louisville. The Woodford Reserve, Cointreau, champagne and bitters drink was an ideal sipper during the afternoon.
I liked the chicken and waffles but I did wish for more! Perhaps they’ll go on the menu permanently.
Then it happened- American Pharaoh won! And the horse recently won the Preakness race as well which means it’s heading to New York for the Belmont Stakes. If American Pharaoh wins that, it’ll take the Triple Crown which a horse hasn’t done since 1978.
Now where should I go to check out that race, hmmm??
