Orlando: Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen at JW Marriott, Grande Lakes
On our first night in Orlando for WSWA, we went for a drink and snacks at Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen in the lobby of the JW Marriott, Grand Lakes. Farm to table was literally right outside the door to the restaurant which also brews beer on-site.
I decided to go for a mixed drink instead of beer. I ordered the Veranda which reminded me of a mint julep. Though others thought sweet tea. It does have whiskey. And it does have iced tea. But instead of mint, it has basil in the form of a rather sweet peach and basil demerara syrup. Later I thought about getting a flight of the beer brewed on site but we were off to dinner at neighboring Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen.
The Veranda– Bulleit rye, peach and basil demerara syrup, lemon, iced tea
We just wanted a snack so we ordered the tempting pretzel bread which came dusted with hops infused salt and a beer cheese. Pretty soon we realized how filling these were and I declined a second pretzel even though I really wanted more.
I did order a bratwurst which turned out to be an itsy bitty one. It was just the perfect size for one person or rather a bite since I shared it with two others.
We also got the meat and cheese platter featured charcuterie, local cheeses and pickled veggies. This we demolished rather quickly. I guess a 5-hour flight will do that to people.
We meant to circle back for another casual snack later in the week but there were plenty of options at both the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton to explore at the Grande Lakes so I never made it back. Perhaps the next time I’m in Orlando.
