Hollywood: Checking Out the Revamped Power House
Power House was a well-loved dive bar that flipped to a proper craft bar. The revamped format was lost on the long time crowd but perhaps fit better with the changing times. There are cute vintage knick knacks everywhere and I appreciated the newspaper rods in the booths.
I stopped in while on the LA Passport bar crawl. The listed drink was a barrel-aged old fashioned. However with a barrel missing in action, the bartender said he would make me a fresh one which was perfectly fine with me since he tailored it to my taste. I asked for a Rittenhouse rye one.
I was really happy when the bartender asked me what my whiskey of choice was. The passport deal was $8 which is a steal for the Rittenhouse. That’s normally what they charge for well drinks. Specialty drinks go for $13 each.
Speaking of specialty drinks, I tried the Pearl Button since I was in a pisco sour mood. This one takes a basic pisco sour and adds a bit of Cocchi Americano which keeps it from being too sweet while keeping it aromatic. I can always go for egg white sour cocktails as they’re refreshing but still have a bit of a heft to them. Plus, you get the protein to boot!

A little birdie told me the best nights to check out live music would be Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Jazz on Tuesdays sounds fun.
