DTLA: Fish Tacos at La Tostaderia

La Tostaderia
La Tostaderia is considered one of the new vendors of Grand Central Market which opened last April. It’s across from Belcampo and serves Mexican seafood including tacos and ceviches.

mixta ceviche
I got the mixta ceviche which included scallops, octopus and shrimp served on two flat tostada shells. They warned me it was spicy and I can attest it’s really very spicy. I’m glad the slices of onion, cucumber, tomato and radish took the edge off somewhat.
It’s a great appetizer to share with one or two others while you dig into a couple of tacos.

octopus tacos
I probably would have gotten soup as the black cod and shrimp soup looked really good. However we were in a middle of a heatwave in February which quickly turned us onto tacos. My dining partner got grilled octopus tacos. This was one of the inventive tacos that included daikon, ginger aiolibean sprouts, Thai basil and sesame seeds. If you like the Asian flavors, also try the shrimp tacos which comes with sriracha. I saw a few people get the gringos tacos which are shrimp and octopus tacos. That sounds like a great combination since you can get a taste of both. Or just come with another person and trade.

fish tacos
I stuck with the more traditional fish tacos which came with a great cabbage slaw that had both red and green cabbage. This was also spicy. Watch out for the bits of jalepeno.
I’m interested in trying the aguachile next time as well as the aforementioned soup. It’s a great time to visit the Grand Central Market with new vendors popping up all the time like Knead and Ramen Hood or the old-school vendors that have been at the market for years.
