Huntington Beach: Tiki Fun at Don the Beachcomber
On our way to Disneyland, we made a detour to Don the Beachcomber which was hosting a tiki marketplace that day. I am interested in special tiki mugs so we took a peek. And since we were there, we had to of course have a drink and a snack.
We shared the Rum Barrel and Pi-Yi. The Rum Barrel is simply described as 6 ingredients and one of the larger drinks at Don the Beachcomber. There’s also a 2-drink max on this particular drink. When I ordered it, the bartender said I didn’t mess around. To be honest, we got the Pi-Yi because it’s served in a pineapple. Instagram worthy, yo.
We saw a plate of the Hawaiian nachos and had to try it ourselves. The giant “nachos” are actually fried wonton wrappers and it’s topped with Kahlua pork. It’s a decadent and rich plate that’s plenty for two.
I always ask people why do they go to bars– and if the answer is to have fun and meet people, you really can’t go wrong with a classic tiki bar. Don the Beachcomber is exactly that- a spot with huge drinks and so-not-good-for-you but you’re-going-to-eat-it-anyway food.
