Tiki Tuesday: Stowaway at Tustin’s Union Market

Tiki Tuesday

Stowaway Tiki took over the former Hatch space at Union Market. Hatch had a successful Tiki Tuesday program and it expanded to full on tiki bar a couple months ago. The food is modern Polynesian with influences of Hawaiian and American (sliders!) cultures.

It’s located at Union Market in Tustin. This brings the tiki bar count back back up in Orange County. Don the Beachcomber closed last year leaving Trader Sam’s to hold down the coconuts until Stowaway opened full time.

spam musubi

Although I was full from lunch at Utopia European Caffe across the way, i couldn’t resist the spam musubi which had been fried like tempura. I was glad of the light hand with the sauce.

Stowaway Tiki

Stowaway Tiki is open for both lunch and dinner. And I was there right in time for happy hour (Monday-Fridays, 2-6 p.m.). We tried a mai tai from the happy hour menu and I also got the Dragon Lady from their regular list. I liked the mai tai and it’s always my main tiki drink I use to judge the bar. The Dragon Lady is a good one to sip on for a while.

I thought it was super cool Stowaway keeps a nod to their craft beer past with a selection of taps. They also have a cocktail on draft which is their punch bowl drink. And if tiki isn’t your thing (???) they also have a number of other spirits on the bar. I spied Irish whiskey, bourbon, gin and more!

Mai Tai – dark rum, dry curacao, orgeat, lime

Dragon Lady – Three Sheets rum, dragon fruit, lemon grass, lime

Put Stowaway on your next Orange County tiki bar crawl!
