Santa Barbara: DIY Lunch with On the Alley and the Santa Barbara Fish Market

We arrived at the Santa Barbara Fish Market starving. A friend went to get us sea urchin and oysters while another grabbed an outdoors table and I went  a couple doors over to On the Alley for the rest of our lunch. He came back with a full tray of uni and a huge bag of oysters. We got to work and we created a mini masterpiece. Scoop uni onto freshly shucked oysters and add yuzu juice. Yum!

There’s really nothing like eating seafood that had been in the ocean just moments before.

I was in charge of ordering from On the Alley and I just got some of my favorite things including shrimp and fish tacos, clam chowder and fish and chips. We loved the fish tacos best. And I was really happy to see avocado with the tacos.

I got a cup of chowder because I’m obsessed with clam chowder. Apparently my friends are as well and we depleted the chowder in no time. It came with a nice hunk of bread as well.

Knowing how much we liked the fish tacos, it’s no surprise we enjoyed the fish and chips. Really great light crispy batter and just perfect fries.

I wouldn’t mind trying their sit-down sister (brother?) restaurant Brophy Brothers but I liked how casual it was to whip up lunch from a couple of vendors.
