DTLA: Checking Out Yuko Kitchen

cookies at Yuko Kitchen
I always love finding new spots for lunch in Downtown Los Angeles. Yuko Kitchen opened up about a month and half ago on the corner of 5th and Main Streets. I figure I don’t have to go all the way to Little Tokyo for some homey Japanese food.
We were welcomed effusively and the counter ladies are more than happy to go over the menu with you. After paying for your meal, you take a number and find a seat in the dining room filled with communal tables. There are a few stand alone tables as well as counter seating by the windows.

spicy salmon bowl
My friend got the spicy salmon bowl which she enjoyed as it had a bit of salad on top of the warm rice. She said it’s pretty filling.

beef plate
On my first visit, I couldn’t decide and it was suggested I’d get a plate lunch as it has a bit of everything including spicy salmon rice cakes. The ground beef is touted as spicy but it isn’t very spicy. I liked that it came with an adorable cup of squash soup and a huge heaping salad.

chicken plate
On my next visit, I got the chicken plate. Sadly the rice for both the spicy salmon rolls and plate were a bit stale. I still liked my food in general and will return to try some soup noodles.
Hurray for new DTLA lunch spots.

I love their original location on Wilshire. I had no idea they are now open in downtown, too. Thanks for the heads up!
