SGV: Softserve at Matcha Matcha

 

Matcha is all the rage these days and Matcha Matcha at the Westfield Santa Anita mall in Arcadia is serving up softserve along with a variety of things green tea.

That’s right, matcha is green tea. But unlike steeping the leaves and drinking tea, you’ll want matcha which is crushed up whole leaves. I find the taste invigorating. It is a little bit more bitter which works well in sweet things like soft serve. Interested in other flavors? I hear the black sesame is amazing.

One of my favorite parts of a Japanese meal sometimes can be the dessert. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I always liked the vanilla soft serve that had green tea flavoring. Now that I know matcha is the stuff you want, I can’t go back to that “fake” flavor. At Matcha Matcha, we tried the one with mochi balls. It’s a big serving and it was eventually demolished by four people!

I’ll have to try some of the pastries and cookies I spotted next time.
