Eagle Rock: Drinks at Room 31

 

Room 31 opened last year but I finally made it in last week. It’s in Eagle Rock within a restaurant and is accessed through a door from the parking lot. There’s a sliding door and you pop into an intimate craft cocktail bar. I wouldn’t say it’s a speakeasy per se since it’s not really that hidden but it’s a nice surprise when you find it.

We had just come from a major tasting up the street so we only had a couple more in us. My friend and I decided to get the Holland Tunnel and Big Island Snow. The Holland Tunnel is a typical Minty drink; brown, bitter, stirred. Sure, the “brown” comes from the two amari tinting the Bols genever. It’s a nice sipper.

Holland Tunnel – genever, Amaro Sfumato, Amaro Cio Ciaro, Dolin dry vermouth, Angostura bitters

 

The Big Island Snow however is their very fun tiki inspired drink. With the great Santa Teresa rum, this will get you shaking whatever you got.

Now I’ll just have to return to try their other interesting drinks including the Secret Stash which features gin and pistachio. I love pistachio. Judi’s Garland is also a big seller with gin and Green Chartreuse. I had debated the Apples to Apples with fino sherry and calvados but ultimately decided on the Holland Tunnel. With Negroni Week coming up, I’d be interested in trying Room 31’s Walnut Negroni.
