DTLA: Lunch at Kai Japanese Roots

crispy spicy tuna slider
I checked out Kai Japanese Roots recently for lunch. The new Japanese restaurant opened at the Spring Arcade complex which also houses Guisados and Uli Gelato.
We ordered the crispy spicy tuna slider which is their take on spicy tuna crispy rice. There’s the added nori for security and the welcome addition of avocado.

handrolls lunch
There is a special lunch menu with some good deals to be found. My friend ordered the 5 hand rolls set. You can choose the number of hand rolls you want. She got crab, spicy tuna, scallops, salmon and yellow tail. While the presentation is awesome, she likes Kazunori better for their hand rolls since the nori wrappers of these got soft quickly.

sashimi bowl
I got the sashimi bowl which I realized later were all the contents of the various rolls jumbled together on rice. It’s not a chirashi bowl where I imagined nice slices of fish. Instead, there’s marinated this and that fish. It was more like a poke bowl.
Overall the space is beautiful and it’s nice to have a variety of Japanese options (just slightly) outside of Little Tokyo.
