DTLA: Rossoblu is an Italian Dream

Golden Dreams

Rossoblu from Chef Steve Samson is now open in Downtown Los Angeles. I checked it out a couple of weeks ago and felt transported to Italy having nibbles and drinks at the bar. I plan to return soon for the full dinner experience.

I ordered a cocktail though for the briefest moment I considered a glass of wine. I had the Golden Dreams or in Italian, “Sogni D’Oro.” When bar manager Brynn Smith was traveling through Italy, she was inspired by a story of mother giving her a child a soothing drink of cream and honey. Of course Brynn’s expert hands, it became a boozy dream.

Valbruna’s eggplant

I’m a big fan of eggplant and knew I had to order the Valbruna’s eggplant. It’s so tasty with tomato and basil. It’s a beautiful starter.

Swiss chard erbazzone

The kitchen very kindly sent out the Swiss chard erbazzone which is a crazy good tart with a nice little chicory salad.

tortellini en brodo

I was filling up but couldn’t resist getting the tortellini en brodo. The tiny tortellini were delicious. Brynn told me they make them while listening to classical music. How very wonderful and sweet. I loved the broth as well. This dish even took on a deeper flavor the next day when I had the rest.

I’ll be back soon for the salumi and pasta!
