The Minty Adventures: Mid-City Stops including Marciano Art Foundation, Cafe Midi and Bluestone Lane Coffee

Ai WeiWei
A few weeks ago, I started a new series called The Minty Adventures. What’s it like to be a tourist in one’s own city?
This time around, I checked out the Ai WeiWei exhibit at Marciano Art Foundation. Sadly, the exhibit is gone but it’s still fun to see all the quirky stuff at Marciano. Plus, there’s still the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at Marciano. What’s great is the museum is free. You just have to make reservations.

At one point, there were three different Ai WeiWei exhibits going on in Los Angeles. I’m glad I got to see one!

The beauty of his work comes from the enormity of it all. The broken tea pot spouts, the bicycles repeated over and over. Even the individually painted bits to imitate sunflower seeds.

My favorite was the scene though composed of paper.

Cafe Midi
After the museum, we headed to Cafe Midi. I have been meaning for years to check it out. Namely because of the fun bear on top of the building. Although I always wanted to check out the shops as well including American Rag.

veggie croque madame
There are some days you just go with the flow and eat whatever is put in front of you. My friend ordered a veggie croque madame and until I bit into it, I didn’t realize it’d have avocado. It’s super delicious this way.

tuna pan bagnat
We also had a tuna pan bagnat. I liked all the veggies in the sandwich even though the bread cut up my mouth a little. No pain, no gain!

Bluestone Lane Coffee
Our lovely day ended after a quick spin through the store and a cuppa at Bluestone Lane. It’s a coffee shop from Australia and now I’ve noticed a bunch around town. I usually get lattes but since this is an Oz spot, I got a flat white. I do love latte art!
