DTLA: Lunch and Charcoal Coffee at Loit Cafe

charcoal latte
Apparently Loit Cafe has been opened for a couple of years now but I didn’t notice until recently it was open to the public. I always thought it was some sort of residential building community hang out / lounge.
Then I saw a photo of their Valentine’s day latte on instagram. When I went in search of it, they said it was only for that romantic holiday but how about a charcoal latte? Perfect!

mushroom quiche
Loit cafe has a small selection of food. I tried the ham and cheese (not shown– I got half of one) while a friend had the mushroom quiche. I like quiche so I liked the offerings.

charcoal lemonade
My friend got the charcoal lemonade. It was pretty cool to watch the charcoal descend to the bottom of the glass like night taking over daylight. I preferred my charcoal latte though. It was perfectly sweet which is unusual for a latte. I’m used to just milky coffee.

chicken sandwich
I also tried the chicken sandwich. I will probably skip this in favor of getting a whole quiche next time. While I liked the simple sandwich of bacon, chicken and avocado, it would have been better if the bacon was crispy.
I’m coming back for coffee and pastries. Colored lattes are a trend now but fortunately this charcoal one was tasty!
