Mid-City: Almost All the Drinks at Brandon’s Inside of 6th & La Brea

amari tasting
I recently checked out Brandon’s, the speakeasy inside of 6th & La Brea brewery.
I knew it was my kind of place when I saw there were three different amari flights. Yes, I’m still working on my Amari Handbook!
We got the Weirds but if you have never had amaro before, I would try the Orange flight. Or if you love amaro, the go for the Fernets and the Weirds.

Licorice Tattoo
I like low ABV drinks on occasion. They are good for easing you into the night. And if you love sherry and vermouth, try the Licorice Tattoo. I was excited to see Jardesca now has a red vermouth.
Licorice Tattoo – Gonzales Byass sherry, Tio Pepe PX sherry, Jardesca red vermouth, absinthe, grapefruit bitters, dehydrated orange

Midnight Lullabye, One-Eyed King
I suppose it doesn’t matter who orders what as my friends and I always share cocktails. Still, I was probably going to order the One-Eyed King one way or another. I was intrigued by the chai-infused rum. It’s in the old fashioned whiskey cocktail family, I’d say. And I still love Rittenhouse rye. It’s in both the One-Eyed King and the Midnight Lullaby. The latter being a nice spin whiskey sour.
Midnight Lullaby – Rittenhouse rye whiskey, Sibona amaro, egg white, pineapple, lemon, coffee tincture
One-Eyed King – chai-infused Real McCoy 5-year rum, Rittenhouse rye whiskey, demerara, cardamon bitters, lemon zest

Hey Buddy, Got a Light?
If you like smoked cocktails, go for Hey Buddy, Got a Light? Plus this cocktail comes with stamped ice! Check out that B (for Brandon’s!). I was having a good time with all the drinks because they are solid drinks with some new liqueurs or vermouths I hadn’t tried yet.
Hey Buddy, Got a Light? – Monkey Shoulder blended Scotch, Caperitif, Tosalini amaretto, smoke

snack tray
Brandon’s has some snacks including rice crispie treats, spiced chick peas and olives. The crispie treats are made with brown rice!

Lady Luck
The bar is dark which always makes me want to nurse some whiskey. But lately I’ve been drinking more brandy. And the Lady Luck fits the bill with Park cognac. Following the tried and true formula of brown, bitter, stirred — Lady Luck will smile on you.
Lady Luck – Park VSOP cognac, nocino walnut liqueur, Aperol, candied walnut

Drunk on the Moon, Uncle Violet
For the last drinks of the night (the only one we didn’t try was the gin one), we had Drunk on the Moon, a tequila sour and Uncle Violet, a beautiful dirty martini. And it’s perfect for vodka lovers even.
Drunk on the Moon – Tequila Cabeza, chili oil, lemon, demarara, egg white
Uncle Violet – Tito’s vodka, Venus aquavit, Routin dry vermouth, olive juice, olive oil
Next time I want to try the food at 6th & La Brea and the beer they make there and finish off the evening with a nightcap at Brandon’s!
