DTLA: Lunch at Tacos 1986

carne asada and adobada tacos
Tacos 1986 has been getting a lot of buzz lately for their Tijuana-style tacos. I finally made my way over to the Spring Street spot to find a very quaint set up. It felt very much like eating street tacos but within the clean confines of the storefront. There is no seating. This is a strictly standing up affair. After ordering from the counter, find a perch to camp out. Eat your tacos and get going. There’s no lingering here unless you order more tacos!

I got two tacos including the adobada (think al pastor) and carne asada. I also got a vampiro stuffed with their famous mushroom. Vegetarians love this one. I think I will try it in a quesadilla next time (and carne asada for the vampiro!).
I also would like to try a mulita. Essentially there are four fillings and four ways to eat them; tacos, quesadillas, mulitas and vampiros. Mix and match to your heart’s content.
