PDX: There’s More Than Chicken at Nong’s Khao Man Gai

pork and rice
I’ve been to Portland a bunch of times and I always try to make it to Nong’s Khao Man Gai. I hadn’t been though in 5 years and was missing the Thai chicken and rice greatly. Then when I got there, I discovered the food cart had grown to include brick and mortar locations! I’m so happy for Nong!
I went one day and ordered the pork and rice. It was delicious but I was still missing the chicken and rice.

A lovely Thai iced tea on a warm day.

So I went one night and got the chicken and rice. I got a little greedy and went with the big portion that included livers. I also got a side of veggies.
It was a lot of food and I may or may not have eaten the leftovers the next morning (yay for hotel fridges).
Hainan chicken or khao man gai is deceptively simple but when done right, it’s an amazing dish.
Now, the next time I’m in Portland, I’m just going to have to eat the pork and rice side by side with the chicken. But I’m pretty sure I’ll still prefer chicken (the one instance) over pork.
