2010 Blogger Prom

I’ve been writing online for 10 years now. I’ve had all sorts of blogs- personal, beauty, lifestyle (read: dieting), art, dating, poetry, food and now this one, the Minty. But last summer, when I heard about Blogger Prom, I didn’t think much of it. Mainly because I was going to be out of town when it was happening but mostly because I just didn’t get it yet. I consider myself a writer but never thought about all my blogs made me a blogger.

Now of course, I understand I have this slightly (haha) food and cocktail-centric blog that occasionally delves into the other aspects of my life (yes, when will I have another dating post?). Because of the Minty, I have met so many wonderful writers and bloggers.  So I was anticipating Blogger Prom with much glee. Plus I love a good party and dressing up. The old Hollywood theme was perfect.

My inability to cope with dating in LA led me to asking a friend as a non-date. It’s much easier anyway. No pressure, no sweaty palms and most of all, I could eat as much as I wanted without feeling freakish. Plus, F for Food was easy on the eyes in her glam Veronica Lake look.

At Yamashiro’s where the Japanese decor presented an elegant backdrop to the party, approximately 200 bejeweled, befeathered and be-hatted guests enjoyed cocktails, food and social networking. There were plenty of passed trays of food but the real stars of the night were the taco station manned by Chef Brock, the Cheese Impresario and Cool Haus. I didn’t indulge in cheese or dessert but loved the tacos I tried.

I have been a fan of Pinky Vodka for at least 4 years now. Although I’m no longer such a vodka chick, I still like my Pinky. The Pinky Confidential, one of the featured cocktails was Liquid Muse‘s recipe.

Pinky Confidential

  • 2 oz Pinky
  • 1 oz Chambord
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz egg white
  • powdered sugar (garnish)

Rim a martini glass with powdered sugar. Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Dry shake for 15 seconds. Add ice, shake again. Gently strain into glass.

What’s a prom without a king and queen? Congratulations to Food Marathon and JozJozJoz!

Pretty soon the night was ending but some were off to the after party at Test Kitchen, the hottest spot in LA right now. I wasn’t up for more libations across town so I headed home with a head full of memories.

Here are some great photos from Heather Kincaid, the official photographer for Blogger Prom.
