Pie Pie Pie: simplethings opening soon
Last Friday, I was invited to check out simplethings, a new sandwich and pie shop opening soon on West 3rd Street, not too far from the Beverly Center. I walked into the cleanly designed shop, cheerily decorated with yellow accents and fell in love. They had miniature pies!
simplethings offers pies in a mini size (about 2″ in diameter), a medium (5″ diameter) and the traditional large pie (9″ diameter).
They are now taking orders for Thanksgiving and will be open until 12 noon on Thanksgiving for pick up. Call them at 323-592-3390. Pick from pumpkin, bourbon pecan or sweet potato. Or get all three!
I loved the pumpkin whoopie pies, the bourbon pecan and of course the traditional pumpkin pies. They also had fun sizes of the key lime, blueberry, peanut butter chocolate and many more. simplethings says they’ll also have savory pies so I’m looking forward to some pot pies. The chicken curry pot pie sounds delightful.

Besides pie, they will roast their own meats for sandwiches. I liked the prime rib but the first bite I had of the Thanksgiving had me exclaiming, “it’s still warm!” It was a magical little bite. I like how the sandwiches are served with pickled green beans.

simplethings hopes to open this weekend. They have plans for brunch, a beer and wine license and they’ll make any pie you want if you call them in advance.
