Ramen Bull Pops In at Breadbar West Third
Noodles pop-ups at Breadbar West Third isn’t anything new but this particular Ramen Bull pop-up will last much longer than a night or a few days. Get your ramen Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. until September 30.
Previously, I tried the Yatai ramen pop-up where exotic ingredients were featured. A few weeks later, I tried soba and adored the ladies but I’m really more of a ramen girl.
This time, the menu for Ramen Bull read closer to a real ramen-ya that I could see myself going to regularly. All the noodle soups are beef based. Think short rib, oxtail, corned beef, tongue and spicy ramen. What’s fun is you can order all those toppings as sides. For instance, I got the spicy ground beef ramen with a side of oxtail. Next time I might order the short rib with a side of tongue. Or maybe I’ll get the corned beef with some extra spicy ground beef. The bowls already come with mushrooms and half an egg but you can order more egg.
Once I started eating, I noticed the ramen noodles were like the ones at Shin-Sen-Gumi which are smooth white noodles versus the more familiar wavy noodles. This was much to the joy of my Noodles Partner who loves SSG. While she liked her tongue ramen, she liked the broth from my spicy ramen more (maybe because she’s a spicy fiend). She was able to order a side of spicy sauce though for only $.75 cents.
I really liked the oxtail. It was tender and very flavorful. I really did luck out with my bowl of noodles. The spicy ramen wasn’t too spicy for me though the Noodles Partner was ready to hand me my housemade hibiscus soda if I should show any signs of not handling the heat. The dried hibiscus flower in the soda was lovely, by the way. It was not too sweet. The Noodles Partner had fun picking out one of the old-fashioned sodas Breadbar offers.
I have some friends who work at nearby Cedars Sinai and they’re always looking for some good Asian food in the area. Now I plan to go tell them about this ramen pop-up so I can try more variations! Check out the full menu here.
