Earth Day Hootenanny with Eventbrite and Highland Hall

Last month I celebrated Earth Day at Highland Hall in Northridge as part of my Blogger Tour with Eventbrite.

Highland Hall has had their huge garden since the 70s with the help of the enigmatically named Garden Gnome. Part of the festivities included a tour of their biodynamic garden. I have to admit I enjoyed looking at all the trees and vegetables more than the explanation of composting.  Check out more pictures from the garden tour here!

When I picked out the event, I had no idea Highland Hall was a private Waldorf school.  Yes, I realize it’s part of the address. I suppose I thought it was an event held at the school. It wasn’t until I got there with my best friend and her daughter that I realized I was at the school’s function. But we were made welcome and I watched my “niece” have fun.

There was a bread baking component of the day which turned out to be pizza making! Oh, to be a kid! I wanted to roll out some dough for their jazzy make-shift oven (a pizza stone on top of the BBQ grill).

We were entertained all day by various groups including some students. There was so much talent.

But of course the hootenany’s highlight was the feast we enjoyed. The buffet style meal featured all organic produce and kosher meats. My table was particularly in love with the chicken.

And we couldn’t leave with a bit of dessert. I opted for the fruit tart but my niece favored the cheesecake. She was still bouncing off the walls hours later from the sugar high…which was just fine for this beautiful Earth Day.
