Costa Mesa: The Burger at ARC

I had been meaning to go back to ARC for a meal after I first tried it for drinks a couple of years ago. After a first dinner at Social, we headed over to ARC to complete our multi-part meal.

One Shot

One Shot

I was in a tequila and mezcal mood so the One Shot was quite perfect with a hint of smoky mezcal tempered by the herbal Green Chartreuse and cacao. I could drink these all night.

One Shot – mezcal, Green Chartreuse, cacao, strawberry

beet salad

We started with the beet salad which was beautiful. I loved the massive bowl and the perfect hunk of cheese on top with even more cheese and beets. This is definitely meant to be shared.

Ethel

Ethel

For something lighter but still in the agave love range, I also tried the Ethel. It’s a great drink to have with food. Plus I love any mixed drinks with grapefruit.

Ethel – tequila, Campari, grapefruit

bacon tart

If you want a few light bites, the bacon tart is good for sharing.

Or the perfect little bowl of chili is especially great on a cold night.

Cigarettes and Coffee

Cigarettes and Coffee

We’re getting serious with the drinks so the main meal must be coming soon. For all those brown, bitter and stirred fans, there’s the cocktail Cigarettes and Coffee.

Cigarettes and Coffee – rye, smoke, coffee

A beautiful burger is well, beautiful when it comes out piled high with super fresh ingredients. Some might disagree with all the fixings but I liked the generous amount of lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. We split this easily between two but if we hadn’t had a first dinner and plenty of apps, I could probably polish this off on my own.

broccolini

That nagging little voice that tells me to eat my vegetables was gloating when we got the broccolini. These were great though my favorite broccolini is at at Faith and Flower in LA.

Manhattan

Manhattan

Rounding out the night, my friend had a Manhattan. It’s a great classic follow up to the Cigarettes and Coffee. Sometimes we go for dessert but sometimes I rather have a boozy cocktail to end a great meal.
