Costa Mesa: Clam Chowder at Shuck Oyster Bar
I’m in Costa Mesa and Orange County every so often and when I’m at the SoCo Collection, I tend to plop myself down at ARC for a burger or other hearty bar snacks. But I’m starting to slowly explore what else is in the complex. Oysters sounded really good on a sunny afternoon so we got a half dozen to start at Shuck Oyster Bar. I like when oysters are so fresh you hardly need more than a squeeze of lemon. But do try their freshly grated horseradish or mignonette.
On the day I visited, they had 16 different types of oysters to try. Imagine getting one of each? Usually they have 13 or 14 types but that can jump up to 22 different types. Oysters heaven.
I was kind of tempted to get cioppino but I opted to try the clam chowder. It’s New England style so it’s thick and creamy.
Shuck is participating in the upcoming Foodbeast Ooze Fest on Saturday, October 10. They’re celebrating National Cheese Month with their apple cheese empanada. After trying their grilled cheese, I have to say they definitely love their cheese!
The next time I swing in, I’m going to have to try the fried oysters, crab cakes, lobster roll, the aforementioned cioppino and definitely more oysters!
