West Hollywood: Dinner and Drinks at EP & LP
E.P. & L.P. opened earlier this year in West Hollywood. The restaurant E.P. celebrates Southeast Asian food while the rooftop L.P. inspires with cocktails.
I knew we were going to a wine tasting after dinner so I stuck to one cocktail. When it’s just one cocktail, it has to count. I chose the Thaitown Rodeo. Normally I go with boozy drinks but I do prefer refreshing drinks with food. The bourbon and Cynar are heavy hitters but it sounded tropical with pineapple juice and pandan leaf. Plus there was a bit of a kick with the Indonesian long pepper. I love spicy mixed drinks.

We started dinner with the wagyu cracker party which may be my new favorite beef tartare. I considered texting my beef tartare-loving friend because I thought she come over right away to check it out.
The tartare is slightly spicy with cool cucumbers to soothe each bite. And who doesn’t love Asian chips? These were best laden with the tartare and the cucumbers acted like a palate cleanser.
When we ordered the crispy pork, I was delighted to find it was also a bit salad. I admit sometimes I just read headlines (it’s wonderful not to be allergic to much, nor do I dislike anything too intensely not to try everything!). Every now and then we’d get a bit of juicy crispy pork. I almost wanted rice but we saved it to go with the veggie curry.
I was eating with my friend who craved vegetables like me. Of course we got the vegetarian grilled vegetables curry. It came with squash, fennel and everything was bathed in a flavorful creamy curry.
But it’s not all veggies in Minty land so we also had the check yo neck, the wood grilled lamb neck. I love neck cuts. They are surprisingly quite meaty. Once we pulled it apart, it made excellent lettuce wraps filling. Don’t forget the piquant sauce!
We were full but we couldn’t leave without a little bit of something sweet. The ginger crunchies fit the bill. They are like giant truffles rolled around in excellent crispy flakes.
L.P. has been hosting bar takeovers. I had a lot of fun at the ones with Lost Lake in Chicago and the recent one with Trick Dog in San Francisco. The next one is with Herbs and Rye in Las Vegas on Monday, October 26. Swing by the rooftop L.P. for either a Frozen Red Snapper (gin Bloody Mary) or a frozen Last Word. There’s also going to be an Italian night on Monday, November 30
and Holiday Cocktail Lounge from New York takes over on Monday, December 28. All guest bar takeover nights are from 8 p.m. to 12 Midnight.
