DTLA: Filipino Lunch at Sari Sari Store

Sari Sari Store

I love when new restaurants open in Downtown Los Angeles. It makes looking for a lunch spot so exciting. And everyone’s favorite foodie hall, Grand Central Market, just got another delightful addition. I’ve now been to Sari Sari Store, a new Filipino counter, a couple of times now.

ribs

The first time I tried the ribs though I had heard so much about the rice. I loved that you got three juicy and meaty ribs. If I thought I was getting plain rice, I was very wrong! I got really wonderful and flavorful rice that I broke my egg into and made my own “fried rice.” And it only got better with shots of vinegar, fish sauce and a dab or two of sriracha.

chicken

My dining partner got the chicken and she loved it as well. We were really impressed by the rice.

If only I could get there early enough for breakfast…

sisig fried rice

I did try the sisig fried rice last time I went. Oddly it wasn’t as flavorful as the rice I had the first time but it was still good. I liked finding unctuous bits of pig face (that’s what sisig means!).

I’ll have to try the arroz caldo next time. I always love a good porridge.

I’m so glad Sari Sari Store opened in DTLA. Now I get to choose between it and my fave Rice Bar.
