The Minty’s Tequila Tuesday Spotlight: Pasote

Pasote Tequila
Today’s a double whammy day! It’s Spirits Week on The Minty and Tequila Tuesday!
I checked out a Pasote tequila tasting at Petty Cash last year. The tasting was held at Petty Cash and we enjoyed some great food including lots and lots of nachos. The bad thing about rideshare rides in traffic is you under-estimate how much time you need to get to places. So sadly I missed out on the welcome cocktail.
Pasote blanco – I got a lot of spicy pepper from the blanco
Pasote reposado – aged six months, this repo is still light enough that I think would be great for mixed drinks
Pasote anejo – this anejo is definitely a sipping tequila with some subtle vanilla from aging
We also got a taste of the Bozal mezcal from the same distributors that carry Pasote.

Yxta – Jamaica Margarita
Recently I hit up Yxta which has started carrying Pasote. I tried a couple of cocktails using the Pasote blanco and reposado. The repo was perfect in the hibiscus margarita. It was very refreshing and went well with my lunch of carnitas.
Jamaica Margarita – Pasote reposado tequila, jamaica (hibiscus), citrus sour

La Pina
However, I really liked La Pina. Although I’m allergic to pineapple, I walk on the wild side and still eat and drink pineapple. So this muddled pineapple drink was seductively dangerous on another level. The blanco was a great player in the drink.
La Pina – Pasote blanco tequila, muddled pineapple, cilantro, jalepeno
I have seen Pasote for sale at stores like Trader Joe’s and I know they’re at Whole Foods as well.
