Hatchi Mix: Preview
Mixologist Devon Espinosa of the Tasting Kitchen heads up an all-new cocktails series at Breadbar for cocktailians.
For those familiar with Breadbar’s Hatchi series where they bring in celebrity chefs once a month for a night of $8 plates, the Hatchi Mix series works the same way. There are 8 cocktails for $8 each.
Tonight, head over to Breadbar in Century City to taste Devon’s take on pre-Prohibition libations.
Hatchi Mix “Vive Le Cocktail”
Sazerac
Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey, Absinth Rinse, Angostura Bitters, Peychuds Bitters, Lemon Peel
Manhatten
Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Carpano Antica Formula, Angostura Bitters, Brandied Cherry
Negroni
Oxley Gin, Carpano Antica Formula, Campari, Orange Peel
Martinez
Oxley Gin, Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth, Maraschino Luxardo, Orange Bitters
The Last Word
Oxley Gin, Maraschino Luxardo, Green Chartreuse, Fresh Lime Juice
Hemingway
Bacardi Rum, Marachino Luxardo, Fresh Grapefruit and Lime juice
Pisco Sour
Peruvian Pisco, Egg White, Fresh Lemon Juice, Angostura Bitters
Moscow Mule
Grey Goose Vodka, Fresh Lime juice, Fresh Ginger
My favorites were the Hemingway, Last Word and Moscow Mule. The Hemingway is how a daiquiri should be. The Last Word and Moscow Mule were very amazing to me. I loved how Devon came up with a ginger for the Mule. He strains steeped ginger and adds a little soda instead of using ginger beer. The Sazerac is very carefully made as is the Manhattan and Negroni. I didn’t try the Martinez or Pisco Sour but I’m sure they are wonderful based on the other masterful cocktails I tried.
Tonight, May 6
Hatch Mix at Breadbar Century City Mall
10250 Santa Monica Blvd
Century City, CA 90067
(310) 277-3770
Bonus! Vid of Devon making his Crazy Kumquat (not available at Hatchi but head over to the Tasting Kitchen for it!)
