Santa Monica: FIG Launches Catering
A couple of weeks ago, FIG in Santa Monica launched catering at the Fairmont Miramar. FIG is one of my favorite restaurants and Chef Ray Garcia kicked off the catering business with an impressive party to showcase their offerings. There were acrobats and Italian Renaissance dressed clowns on stilts, music and of course, outstanding food.
I couldn’t decide what was my favorite appetizer. There were so many to choose from!
There were also stations such as the beer & pretzel station, hot dogs and Chef Ray was making pork and fish tacos.
They used the biggest fish I’ve ever seen (okay, not true) for the fish tacos. While I enjoyed them, I kept going back for the pork tacos.
Ruby Grapefruit & Basil – Hendrick’s Gin, Aperol, basil, grapefruit
The Hot Mop – Peligroso Reposado tequila, muddled jalepeno, blood orange juice, agave
The other specialty cocktail was the Blueberry & Thyme with Karlsson’s vodka but I didn’t try it as I’ve had it before (although I replaced it with bourbon).
More apps! The quinoa was particularly lovely.
While enjoying my mini lobster roll, I strolled over to the hot dog station. They were offering three hot dogs; a plain, the FIG dog (all-beef dog, comte cheese, bacon-habenero marmalade, Fritos) and the Taco dog (all-beef dog, braised carnitas, escobeche, red onion, pickled cilantro leaves, creamed rajas, guacamole, breakfast radishes). While I liked everything on the Taco dog, the FIG dog was so good and much easier to eat. I loved the idea of Fritos on the dog.
The best part about the entertainment is the feeling of excitement. I love the circus and these performers made everyone feel welcome.
We went inside for dessert. Oh man, it was a sweet, sweet dream. With so many to choose from, I decided on a whoopie pie stuffed with fresh raspberries. Or would you call this a giant fluffy macaron?
I loved that Chef Ray demo’d the pot de creme. It is one of the best desserts at FIG.
The party was held on the driveway normally used by guests and valet. It was really great they can close it down for a private event, even moving in temporary fireplaces. Don’t forget the wine as you enjoy the view and party.

Love the pig and fish presentation of those tacos. And that tower of desserts.
Still have yet to make it out to Fig for a meal…but I must!
