DTLA: Chef Mark Peel’s Bombo Opens at the Grand Central Market
Chef Mark Peel has opened Bombo, a seafood driven concept at Grand Central Market. He’s best known for restaurants Campanille and The Tar Pit. The menu isn’t fussy and features quite a bit of seafood though I was eyeing the fried chicken. I still think about the soft shell crab grilled cheese I had one night at Campanille’s Thursday grilled cheese nights and hope to something like that as a special one day.
I’d love to try the fish stew or steamed clams or mussels soon. Pricing wise, it’s on par with the rest of the newer vendors.
After wanting to try everything, I finally settled on the fish and chips. I must have sold 3 orders for them as I sat at the counter eating the wonderfully done chips. People walking by inquired what I was eating and they ultimately would get the same thing.
I enjoyed the lighter style “tartare” made with yogurt with the fish. And I appreciated the vinegar that was also served with the fish and chips. The bonus was also getting a side of pickled vegetables with the meal.
Bombo is a welcome addition to GCM.
