Chicago: Drinks at Billy Sunday Bar

I’m Ya Huckleberry
After drinks at Longman and Eagle, one of my favorite bars in Chicago, we hopped over to nearby Billy Sunday. I had heard about this bar for years and made a mental note to try it. I can see why everyone loves this bar. It’s my ideal combination of dark bar, good drinks, friendly bartenders and lovely crowd.
While my friend tried out the beer and cider, I was all over the cocktails. It’s literally a huge menu, like a mini poster sized menu with big graphic fonts and it’s divided into a number of categories. I was interested in the original drinks. I figure the next time I’m at this bar (which hopefully is next year), I’ll try the barrel aged stuff. They also have a huge amari collection.
I tried the I’m Ya Huckleberry first. It was a refreshing drink on this humid night.
I’m Ya Huckleberry – white rye whiskey, gin, huckleberry, madiera, black trumpet mushrooms

A Loss for Words
I’m very much a brown, bitter, stirred person but I did find A Loss for Words just a tad too medicinal and bitter for me.
A Loss For Words – bourbon, genever, fenugreek gomme, carciofo, angelica root bitters

Baby Darlin’
Luckily, they changed it out to Baby Darlin’, the other drink I had been eyeing. The bar manager did that without me asking which I found to be very nice of her. This was the perfect drink for me to end the night and then head on over for late night pizza.
Baby Darlin’ – aged agricole and demerara rums, 1970s Don Bairo amaro, vermouth di torino, burnt sugar bitters, toasted orange
