DTLA: Lunch at Aloha Cafe

POG juice

We’ve ordered from Aloha Cafe for years but I finally had a chance to check out the restaurant recently. Aloha Cafe is in the same shopping center as Mermaid bar, Sushi Gen and Tea Master Matcha Cafe.

spam musubi

I have never been to Hawaii but I imgine it would be my favorite comfort food paradise. I would eat spam musubi every day if I could! We settled for two orders for an appetizer. Hey, I couldn’t just eat half of one! I like that the spam and sauce was on the inside — it’s much cleaner that way. Though I enjoy the ones at nearby  Rice and Nori just a bit better even if it’s messier.

kalbi

My friend got the kalbi plate. I tried a little and it’s a meat eater’s delight.

loco moco

I decided to go super Hawaiian and got the loco moco. It comes with a ton of gravy which goes great with the burger patty and rice. I’m not usually a macaroni salad fan but I make an exception in Hawaiian food. I swear it’s the mayo they use– it’s so much lighter.

We’ll continue to get take out but I did enjoy our outing to the actual cafe. I got to sip POG juice (pineapple orange guava) in a spacious restaurant and dream about going to Hawaii one day.
