Sunday, April 10: CicLAvia
On Sunday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, a 7.5 mile car-free route will be open for pedestrians and bicyclists in Los Angeles. The route as pictured above stretches from Boyle Heights to Downtown L.A. to MacArthur Park to Koreatown to East Hollywood. Everyone is invited to walk and/or bike the route.
Although there is no official starting and ending point, I thought it’d be fun to do a round-up of eating and drinking along the CiCLAvia route. It’s going to be one big “block party!” Plus some bars will be open early in DTLA.
East Hollywood
Near Beverly and New Hampshire is a stretch of pupusarias. My picks would be Jaragua where you an find a well-made cocktail or the more casual El Chipilin.
Also recommended: Pure Luck for vegetarian eats, Scoops for ice cream and Rincon Chileno for a Chilean treat.
Koreatown:
It’s been a couple of years since I hunted for the best Korean fried chicken but I was fond of the olive-oil fried chicken at BBQ Chicken (7th & Vermont), BonChon (6th & Catalina) and everyone loves Kyochon (6th & Hobart).
Or wander around, that’s what I’d do. I might make a run for noodles, mandoo or early KBBQ?
MacArthur Park
Note: Langer’s isn’t open on Sundays. But there are still great spots in the area.
DTLA
Seven Grand, Casey’s and Cole’s will be open early for the event.
With the majority of the route along 7th, I’d also take in some architecture. LA Conservancy has a great guide here.
More bars and/or restaurants I’d check out:
Aburiya Toranoko for izakya fun!
Bottega Louie for some sweets
Ensenada Restaurant – for seafood
The Gorbals – I wonder if they’ll have some pig’s head that day?
Las Perlas for tequila and mezcal
Lazy Ox for brunch!
Mas Malo – try to check out the Tequila Vault or the Cantina downstairs!
Boyle Heights
I’m not as familiar with Boyle Heights despite growing up in nearby Lincoln Heights. So I will leave it my blog buds; StreetGourmetLA and FoodGPS to guide you.
So who wants to meet up for CicLAvia food crawl?
For more information, check out CicLAvia’s website.
